Red velvet cake

This red velvet cake makes a nice chocolate cake if you don't have food coloring. It goes really well with the cream cheese frosting.

1 teaspoonbaking powder
1 teaspoonbaking soda
0.5 cupbutter
1 cupbuttermilk
2 tablespooncocoa powder
2 largeeggs
1 tablespoonred food colouring (optional)
1 pinchsalt
1.5 cupsugar
1 teaspoonvanilla extract
2 cupwhite flour
1 teaspoonwhite vinegar
0.25 cupwhole wheat flour


Directions:

Step 1
Combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
Step 2
Mix together the buttermilk, vanilla, food colouring, and vinegar.
Step 3
Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each. Beat in the flour mixture, alternating with the buttermilk mixture.
Step 4
Divide the batter into two pans and bake at 350F for 25-30 minutes, until the cake is cooked through.
Step 5
Let the cake cool, then frost with cream cheese frosting.
